Update: Coroner Norman Smith has gotten back in touch and confirmed that a fatality has been reported during the morning’s explosion on Winkle Road.

Local fire officials on the scene were able to report the fire caused by the explosion has been extinguished. The State Fire Marshals Office is sending their Propane Team, who are specialized in explosions of potential nature, to investigate.

Officials remain on the scene of an explosion on Winkle Road that destroyed a house, and are searching through the rubble of signs of anyone who might have been inside.
The State Fire Marshals Office is sending an official to investigate the explosion that took place this morning. No fatalities have yet been confirmed by the Polk County Coroner’s Office.
Polk County Coroner Norman Smith is expected to make a statement about the explosion later today. Additional officials are currently on the scene and were unavailable for further comment.

Officials have reported that a house on Winkle Road has exploded this morning.
No word yet on whether any casualties have been found on the scene. Police, Fire and EMS officials have all been dispatched to the scene.
The Winkle Road residence is in the Highway 27 area south of Cedartown. Emergency officials are asking everyone to stay out of the area until the situation is under control.
