A Dallas woman was arrested she tried several times to get free food from a local restaurant, even going so far as threatening an employee with arrest if she didn’t get it.
Rockmart Police took Kimberly George Ragsdale, 47, of a Dallas address, into custody on the charge of impersonating a public officer or employee on Thursday and remains in jail without bond set on the felony offense.
According to the report on the arrest, police caught up with Ragsdale after she attempted over the week on several occasions to get free food from the Chick-fil-A of Rockmart, posing as a federal agent driving a white minivan.
When police were able to stop her in the parking lot, she tried to tell the arresting officer that she was a federal agent and that her credentials were electronic, refused to get out of her van when ordered to the point where officers told her she would be tased if she didn’t comply.
Once in custody, she began to “talk into her shirt like she was talking into a radio telling someone that we were arresting her and to send someone to Rockmart PD.”
The arresting officer noted in his report that when questioned, witnesses said “Ms. Ragsdale had been coming there for several days saying she worked with the FBI and requested free food.”
Chief Randy Turner said that police are unsure if she might have tried to use the same scheme to get free food at other locations that didn’t get reported to Rockmart Police.
“We are thankful for the observant and professional staff at Chick-fil-A who knew what to do and gathered the info needed for us to make our case and catch her in the act,” he said. “We would like to inform our citizens to call 911 if someone is claiming to be an officer if they aren’t in a marked car, or in a proper uniform, or if they don’t have the proper credentials.”
Turner added that “Also, you will not hear a real officer demand a meal anywhere. If it is given, we appreciate it. If it is discounted, we appreciate it. We will not ask for it or make threats and demand it.”
